Inspection and Inspection Standards for Desks in China

Why inspect the desk before shipment?

1.Stop defective goods before shipment to cut overseas after-sales loss.
Desks are bulky furniture with high sea freight and long transit time. If defects are found after arrival at destination, costs for return, replacement, local repair and compensation will be much higher than sorting out non-conforming items domestically.

2.Verify compliance with purchase order to avoid wrong goods.
Inspect style, dimension, board material, color, hardware, logo and accessories to ensure factories do not produce wrong items or mix materials from different batches.

3.Eliminate potential safety risks.
Check sharp table edges, edge sealing, tightness of connectors and overall stability. Prevent tipping hazards and complaints against importing country safety regulations.

4.Control appearance and workmanship defects.
Check scratches, dents, color difference, peeling paint, unsealed edges, exposed screws and uneven gaps to guarantee appearance meets agreed quality standards.

5.Evaluate packaging protection performance.
Desks are vulnerable to damage during long-distance shipping. Inspect carton strength, corner protectors and foam packing to minimize transit damage.

6.Protect business reputation for both buyer and supplier.
Pre-shipment inspection reduces disputes upon delivery. Consistent quality builds trust with buyers and lowers risks of cargo rejection or order cancellation.

7.Meet importer compliance and customs requirements.
Many overseas buyers require pre-shipment inspection reports for customs clearance and internal receiving procedures, which is mandatory for retailers and distributors.

Inspection Standards

I. Order Information Verification (Basic Items)
1. Model, color, material, and dimensions match the confirmed sample/PI
2. Hardware quantities, specifications, and colors are correct (screws, 3-in-1 connectors, drawer slides, handles, floor pads)
3. Logo placement, font, and size meet requirements
4. Instruction manual, hardware kit, and protective corner guards are all included

II. Dimensional Inspection
1. Length/width/height tolerance: ±3mm; cutout position tolerance: ±2mm
2. Tabletop and leg thicknesses match the sample
3. Diagonal deviation after assembly ≤5mm; ensures squareness without skewing

III. Appearance Inspection
Critical (Severe Defects)
· Moldy panels, large-area swelling/blistering due to water damage, severe breakage
· Strong, pungent odor (suspected excessive formaldehyde)
Major (Major Defects)
· Surface scratches or dents ≥15mm
· Large-area edge banding failure (degluing, gaps, or peeling)
· Obvious color difference or stains that cannot be wiped off
· Punctures or edge chipping/blowouts on panel surfaces
Minor (Minor Defects)
· Minor scratches (<5mm) or small, inconspicuous stains
· Slight burrs on edge banding that do not affect usability

IV. Structural and Functional Inspection
1. Stable overall structure after assembly; no wobbling when placed on the floor
2. Table legs and connectors securely fastened; no loosening or abnormal noise under load
3. Drawer slides operate smoothly; no sticking, tilting, or detachment
4. No sharp corners; rounded corners meet dimensional specifications
5. No cracking around screw holes; 3-in-1 connectors properly installed
6. Tabletop load test: 50kg evenly distributed load ...heavy loads without deformation or cracking

V. Hardware Inspection
1. Handles free of burrs, plating defects, or rust spots
2. Drawer slides have good rust protection; operation is smooth without harsh noise
3. Floor pads are intact and non-slip, preventing floor scratches
4. Hardware kits are complete and free of rust

VI. Packaging Inspection
1. Individually packaged items with corner protectors installed
2. Adequate separation using foam or EPE (pearl cotton) to prevent surface scratches during transit
3. Outer carton free of damage, moisture, or deformation from heavy loads
4. Carton markings and quantity labels are clear and match the order details
5. Instruction manual and hardware bag included inside the carton

VII. Safety Requirements (Key for Exports)
1. No sharp edges; risk of cuts/scratches eliminated
2. Complete edge banding on panels to minimize harmful emissions
3. Stable structure; resistant to tipping over during normal use
4. Additional requirement for children's desks: anti-pinch gap design

VIII. Sampling Standards
AQL 2.5 (Major), AQL 4.0 (Minor)
Critical defects: Zero tolerance; rejection of the entire batch if 1 unit is found defective
