Coffee Machine Inspection and inspection standards in China

Why inspect coffee machines before shipment?
offee Machine Inspection1

Coffee machines comprise complex water circuits, electrical systems, and precision mechanical components, carrying inherent risks of leakage, electrical faults, and functional failure; addressing quality issues after shipment is extremely costly. Pre-shipment inspection identifies problems-such as leaks, electrical defects, functional failures, packaging errors, labeling issues, and specification non-compliance-at the source. By intercepting risks at the factory, companies can avoid shipment rejection at the destination port, massive claims, and damage to their brand reputation.

Inspection Standards
I. Applicable Basic Standards
1.International Safety: IEC 60335-1, IEC 60335-2-15 (Liquid-heating appliances)
2.European Union: EN 60335-1, EN 60335-2-15 (CE LVD)
3.USA: UL 1082
5.4.Domestic (China): GB 4706.1, GB 4706.19
Food Contact: EU (EC) 1935/2004 / FDA 21CFR / GB 4806 series

II. Verification of Quantity, Markings, and Documentation (Mandatory Initial Check)
1. Outer carton quantity, model, and color match the PO; SKUs and barcodes scan correctly.
2. Outer carton markings: Destination port, product name, gross/net weight, carton number, and handling symbols (e.g., "Handle with Care," "Keep Dry") are all present.
3. Unit nameplate (tamper-evident/non-removable):
Model, voltage, frequency, power rating, country of origin, and manufacturer.
Plug specification matches the order (EU/UK/US/AU, etc.).
Certification marks (CE/UL, etc.) align with the target market requirements.
4. Accessory inventory check (per BOM):
Power cord, filter basket, measuring scoop, milk frothing wand, drip tray, user manual, and certificate of conformity; manual language meets customer requirements.

II. Appearance and Structural Inspection
1. Appearance
The housing is free from scratches, dents, cracks, color variations, stains, or burrs/flash; the paint finish or polish is uniform.
The logo is clearly printed, with no ghosting or paint loss; icons and warning text are complete and intact.
The glass carafe/viewing window is free from cracks, air bubbles, or scratches.
2. Assembly and Structure
Screws are fully tightened, secure, and free from stripped threads; gaps across the unit are uniform, with no noticeable warping.
The water tank opens and closes smoothly, and the sealing lid seats correctly; level markings are clear.
The handle, filter basket, and drip tray attach and detach smoothly without binding or sticking.
The power cord strain relief is secure and does not pinch the housing.
The unit sits stably and is not at risk of tipping over.

V. Water Circuit & Leakage Test
1. Fill the water tank to the rated level (slightly above the maximum mark) and let it sit for 5–10 minutes; inspect the base of the unit, pipe connections, boiler interfaces, and the brew head to ensure there is no seepage, dripping, or condensation.
2. Activate the brewing/pump cycle and run it for 1–2 complete cycles.
3. Ensure there is absolutely no leakage at the water tank interface, silicone seals, boiler inlet/outlet pipes, or drainage lines.
4. For espresso machine models: Re-inspect the steam lines and brew head seals while the boiler is pressurized and during the extraction process.
Verify that the drip tray collects water properly without overflowing and that the drainage system is clear and unobstructed.

V. Functional Test (Powered On)
1.Power-on self-test is normal; the display shows no missing segments or blackouts; indicator lights function correctly.
2.Buttons/touch controls are responsive, with no malfunctions, cross-triggering, or abnormal sounds; knob resistance is uniform.
3.Heating starts normally, with no abnormal noises or resonance-related sounds.

VI. Electrical Safety Inspection
1. Grounding continuity: Grounding resistance of metal enclosure ≤ 0.1 Ω
2. Insulation resistance (500 V DC) ≥ 1 MΩ
3. Dielectric strength (Hi-pot): No breakdown or flashover when voltage is applied according to standards
4. Power cord intact with no exposed inner conductors; plug securely molded
5. Dry-boil protection thermostat and overheat protection function effective (removal of protection devices is prohibited)
6. No live casing or electric leakage causing electric shock sensation

VII. Compliance Verification for Food-Contact Components
Components in contact with coffee/hot water: water tank, brew head, filter basket, silicone seals, and water outlet nozzle.
1. Materials must comply with food-contact regulations in the target market.
2. No off-odors; no leaching from plastic parts; no whitening or dissolution of seals.
3. The use of recycled materials for water-contact components is prohibited.

VIII. Packaging Inspection
1. Internal protective materials (e.g., Styrofoam) are intact; key fragile components (glass carafe, steam wand, control panel) have independent protection.
2. The product does not shift inside the color box; accessories are securely fixed to prevent scratching the unit body during transport.
3. Color box printing is correct; the box shows no signs of crushing, damage, or moisture.
4. Outer carton rigidity meets standards; sealing is secure; stacking markings are clear.
